St. Michaels's and All Angels Church, where many of our ancestors were baptized, married and buried, is in need of some repairs.
The congregation is fairly small and they have limited means of raising needed funds. If you think you can help with even a small donation, please contact Marilyn Sharp, Church Warden.

Baptism, Marriage & Burial Transcriptions

Transcribing is continuing for all Cornwood Parish information available for baptisms, marriages and burials, from records obtained from the Devon County Council and other sources. To date we have transcribed records for:

• Baptisms from 1691 to 1995
• Marriages from 1685 to 1932
• Banns from 1754 to 1840
• Burials from 1627 to 2001

Census Transcriptions

We have completed transcribing the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 Censuses for Cornwood Parish. These results are posted on the GENUKI/Cornwood pages where they may be reviewed personally by researchers. Some transcriptions have also been completed for the adjacent parishes of Harford, Plympton St Mary and Plympton St Maurice Parishes. The 1911 British Census records are available at the Find My Past website which is a pay per view site.

1841 Tithe Apportionments

From the National Archives description: “The original tithe apportionments were created under the Tithe Commutation Act 1836. Tithe districts were apportioned and mapped, 10,871 in England and 959 in Wales. The apportionments set out the names of the holders and occupiers of land in each tithe district (usually a parish or township) the acreage and use of each parcel of land, the amount of rentcharge payable and the names of the tithe owners. Until 1936, subsequent altered apportionments were laced up with the original apportionments.”

Presented here is the complete list of owners and occupiers in Cornwood parish. Also included are maps of the parish that show the various parcels.
