Lookups Baptism, Marriage & Burial Transcriptions Transcribing is continuing for all Cornwood Parish information available for baptisms, marriages and burials, from records obtained from the Devon County Council and other sources. To date we have transcribed records for:
In addition, Marilyn Sharp, Church Warden for St. Michael's Church in Cornwood, has kindly provided her file on burials, which, in many cases, include grave-site numbers, for the years 1627 to 2001. These records have been incorporated with other transcriptions of the parish registers which gives us a very complete record of burials in the parish. Census Transcriptions We have completed transcribing the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1891 and 1901 Censuses for Cornwood Parish. These results are posted on the GENUKI/Cornwood pages where they may be reviewed personally by researchers. Some transcriptions have also been completed for the adjacent parishes of Harford, Bickleigh and Shaugh Prior Parishes. See relevant GENUKI pages for these parishes for links to the census summaries. The complete 1851 Census records for Devon, Norfolk and Warwick may be purchased on CD from the Church of Latter Day Saints. Researchers may also search, for themselves, all of the United Kingdom 1881 Census results through the Family Search site of the LDS Church. We have found many errors on the published 1851 census thus have transcribed from the actual records and that transcription is on the GENUKI/Cornwood site. The entire 1901 British Census is available through the auspices of the Public Records Office. Initial searching of records is free, however, fees are payable to view the details of individual records. From the National Archives description: “The original tithe apportionments were created under the Tithe Commutation Act 1836. Tithe districts were apportioned and mapped, 10,871 in England and 959 in Wales. The apportionments set out the names of the holders and occupiers of land in each tithe district (usually a parish or township) the acreage and use of each parcel of land, the amount of rentcharge payable and the names of the tithe owners. Until 1936, subsequent altered apportionments were laced up with the original apportionments.” Presented here is the complete list of owners and occupiers in Cornwood parish. Also included are maps of the parish that show the various parcels.
